Mullingar Shamrocks Club Notes
24 March 2014
Div 3 League: Mullingar Shamrocks 2-8 v The Downs 0-7:
The opening Div 3 game of the season was a lively affair. Shamrocks were slow to settle and the opposition had two points on board by the ten minute mark. A minute later Dean Moore had popped over his first point from a free. This was to be his first in a personal tally of seven throughout the game. The Downs were a further two points to the good by the twenty fifth minute, when Efe Siode moved onto a defence splitting pass and rocketed the ball to the net. In truth we were fortunate to be level at this stage after some poor shooting by the opposition. It was thanks also to Ronan Tyrrell who made some excellent saves during the half. On the restart our team began to show a lot more urgency. A good point from a free by Dean Moore was followed a minute later by a superb goal from Jordan Warde, who was prominent throughout. Dean Moore continued to tack on the points and we led 2-6 to 0-5 after ten minutes of the half. The sides traded two points each from there to the final whistle and we ran out easy winners in the end. Some of the younger team members showed up well on the day and will have benefited from this outing.
Team: Ronan Tyrrell, Niall Kevin, Mark Hegarty, Stephen Hassett, James Shaw, Efe Siode, David Coyne, Paul Hickey, James Grogan, Ryan Blundell, Rob Ryland, Neil Hannigan, Jordan Warde, John Ganly, Dean Moore. Subs used: Mickey McKnight, Conor Hughes, Danny Purcell, Colin Rock, Tye Adamson.
Div 1 League: Caulry 0-9 v Mullingar Shamrocks 1-5:
The Senior side travelled to Mount Temple on Sunday afternoon and were on the receiving end of a spirited display by the home side. We failed to come to grips with the massed defence of Caulry and the tight confines of the pitch meant we struggled to get scores on the board. We were behind five points to two at the break. A superb goal by Dylan McDermott, having been put through by Kieran Gavin, was added to by Simon Quinn with a point. This levelled up matters with seven minutes to go and the game was there for the taking. However, Caulry managed to notch two points to our one in the remaining time.
Team: Daragh Ryan, David Coyne, Kieran Gavin, Eddie Moore, Ryan Blundell, Conor Twomey, Efe Siode, Killian Daly, Donal O'Donoghue, Paddy Fagan, Sean Daly, Davy Noonan, Dylan McDermott, Simon Quinn, John Ganly. Subs used, Sean Maguire, Philip Shaw, Dean Moore.
