JFC Semi-Final, Mullingar Shamrocks 1-10 v Moate 0–10:
What a difference a week makes. Having lost so narrowly to the same opposition in the Minor Semi last Saturday, some of those same minor players lined out against Moate hoping to avenge the previous week's defeat. Each and every one of them contributed enormously to this fine win. It was a game which was in the melting pot right up to the final whistle, with Efe Siode's superb strike on goal proving the difference in the end. A full account of the game will be given elsewhere in the paper.
Senior Football Semi Final:
The Senior team will contest the Semi Final this Sunday 29th Sept. As in the quarter final last year our opponents Tyrrellspass will be a formidable test. We wish the team all the very best.
Our Minor Ladies team took Coralstown/Kinnegad in a re-fixed game, the final in the group stages. This was a very evenly contested throughout. Shamrocks started with strongest when on form corner forward Michaela Dunne hit 1-1 within 5 minutes. Kinnegad started to come back and chipped away with some fine scores. Lauran McCormack steadied the ship again with a free. The Shamrocks defense worked very hard, more notably Rachel Hannigan, Clare Fagan and Ciara Murphy. It was however one little slip in the first half that allowed Kinnegad centre forward Donna Kiernan through for a well taken goal. With points from Casey McDermott, Michaela Dunne and Kirsty Dunne Shamrocks went into the break just a point ahead.
The second half saw a great start for the home side when Lauran McCormack rattled the Kinnegad net. This was quickly cancelled out by a goal down the other end, but the Shamrocks forwards dug deep and chipped away at the points. Half way through the second half the switch of Kinnegad’s midfielder to full forward stared to cause trouble for the Shamrocks backs and she struck two fine goals. Thankfully the Shamrocks girls managed to claw their way back into the game with some well taken points to level the game. In all a draw game was a fair result as both teams battled very hard. Final score: Shamrocks 2-13 to Coralstown/Kinnegad 4-7.
We would like to give a special word of thank to Mary Walshe who had to step in to ref the game on Sunday when the referee unfortunately did not show.
Congratulations to the U12 girls team who overcame our neighbors St.Lomans in an exciting semi final. They will play Moate this Saturday 28th, venue and time TBC.
Bingo takes place every Thursday night at 8.30pm at Springfield.
